Platinum Jubilee Royal Scarecrows
From the very beginning, way back in October 2021, when a group of residents first got together
to discuss what the village might do for the Platinum Jubilee, the enthusiasm was palpable. That
enthusiasm manifested itself into a profusion of creative ideas, culminating in all the wonderful
events that came to pass over the Jubilee celebration period.
Come the time, the village was delightfully festooned with bunting; majestic scarecrows made a
royal entrance; a hugely informative history trail took people back in time via a map; vintage and
state of the art vehicles showed off their elegance; there was an exclusive village fly-past; a
wonderful seven decades exhibition put together by school children from Thorner’s was held at
LATCH; trees planted; Andy & Liz at The White Horse hosted a day-long BBQ and live music on
completion of the midday Duck Race; a Jubilee Anthem was sung in St Mary’s church, and a
Jubilee Picnic, cake competition, Grand Draw and Bridport Big Band brought proceedings to a
close on Jubilee Sunday, with the help of a passing downpour.
Our grateful thanks to Village Webmaster, David Hearn, for the imaginative presentation of
Platinum Jubilee information and also to the BVN Editorship for their Jubilee themed cover for
June’s edition, and for their promotion of events leading up to this wonderful occasion.
Well done, Litton Cheney! This was “community” at its very best and it was so much fun. To all
those involved, a huge Thank You – You know who you are – and can we do it all again next
year!
