Road Closure 11 th & 12 th June - Miles Cross
Litton Cheney Village
We are writing to provide an update on the next phase of roadworks at Miles Cross, which are being carried out to enable construction of the new roundabout serving the Foundry Lea development. Phase 3 works will begin overnight on Thursday 11 June and Friday 12 June 2026. These works require short overnight total carriageway closures of the A35 so that traffic management equipment can be safely changed and the next stage of works can begin. On Thursday 11 June, the A35 will be fully closed overnight (from 8pm Thursday to 6am Friday) to allow the existing temporary vehicle restraint system to be removed. On Friday 12 June, a further overnight closure (from 8pm Friday to 6am Saturday) will be required so that narrow lanes and a new temporary vehicle restraint systeím can be installed. This will allow the works area to be safely maintained while traffic continues to use the A35 during the next stage of construction. During these overnight closures, the A35 will be closed in both directions in the Miles Cross area. The B3162 West Road junction will also be closed at its junction with the A35 to prevent traffic joining the A35 while the closure is in place. A signed diversion route will be in operation for A35 traffic. Eastbound traffic will be diverted from the A35 at Axminster junction, using the A358, A303, A3088 and A37, before rejoining the A35 at Monkey Jump roundabout. Westbound traffic will follow the same diversion in reverse, leaving the A35 at Monkey Jump roundabout and rejoining at Axminster. Access will be maintained for residents living between the Axminster junction and Eype Down Road. For westbound traffic, access will also be maintained for residents living between Monkey Jump roundabout and the New Slip Lane junction with the A35. For local Bridport traffic needing to use the A35 east or west, a local diversion will be available from the B3162 West Road at Miles Cross, via East Street, to join the A35 at East Road roundabout. These overnight closures are needed to complete the traffic management changes safely and as quickly as possible, while reducing the length of disruption during the daytime. Once this preparatory work is complete, traffic will continue through the works area under narrow lanes while the next stage of construction takes place. We expect this phase to work last around 15 weeks. We appreciate that these works may cause some disruption and are grateful for the continued patience of residents, businesses, and road users while this important infrastructure is delivered. Kind regards Foundry Lea Consortium
